--One Lame Book Review--

"That's me, the slight wind between your hand and what you're reaching for, chair and paper, book or cup: that close, where I am: between where breath ends, air starts."

~excerpts from "Where you are" by: Mark Doty

One of the goals i have for 2011 is to catch up on my reading. I just finished reading Twisted 9 (Jessica Zafra). I like Zafra because she has this mixture of sarcasm and wit in her writing and I gotta admit, i was inspired by my long lost sister (Teresa Anne Salvador). I'm not here to talk about Zafra nor the Twisted series. I am here to rant and rave about Mark Doty.

(note: this is not a book review, i am not done reading the book)

Book #2 for January is Sweet Machines. I gotta admit until this day, I have never heard of Mark, never read his books either. When reading poetry, I am partial to Neruda and Dickinson but Mark blew me away. He is a breath of fresh air, each line entices the senses. When you're reading his poems, it's like you are transported to a quiet place where all you hear is the wind. He is a master of his craft.

That's all i got. Once I am done reading the book, I might write something sensible.

Rants and Raves

2010...In review

One of the goals i have this year is to start writing again. In my normal state of mind, i wouldn't consider this writing...it's ranting (think Bag Lady in Central Park). Well, i guess great things start with small beginnings (whoa! that sounded awful....scratch that).

Last year was mediocre for me. Here's why:

  • I gained weight, stopped working out....in short LAZY
  • Got depressed for quite sometime (perks of being single and sarcastic)
  • I finally accepted the fact that i am addicted to tattoos (got my 7th tat)
  • Retail therapy
  • Got obsessed with 90's music
  • Missed friends from my old job....and i missed the stress too (weird huh?)
  • Enjoyed reading restaurant reviews and dreamed of being a food critic
  • Celebrated 3 years of being alcohol and nicotine free
  • Fascinated with consipiracy theories (i still am)
  • Bought a lot of books (for some odd reason, i havent read any of them)
  • Started to like Indie music (Hugs to Jonathan Berdul, he introduced me to Vienna Teng)
  • Managed to grow my hair (shoulder lenght...dont get your hopes up...i had to cut it again because of boredom)
  • Got tired of taking pictures (yes, i am lazy)
I guess, that sums up 2010...i hope 2011 wont be as boring as last year.

New Years Resolution (take 2)

Say goodbye to 2010 and welcome 2011. Nothing uneventful happened last year (at least to me). The idea of "new years resolutions" doesnt really appeal to me, why? for one: if you want to change something you dont need to wait for New Year to do something about it. Nevertheless, in the interest of conforming to everyone else...Here's my list:

  • Be nice. (disclaimer: not limited to friends and relatives)
  • Smile often. This is gonna be difficult, im not really a "friendly person" and its not my thing to smile.
  • Lose weight. 2 years ago, i decided to eliminate red meat in my diet, i gotta say i am 95% successful, this is gonna be easy.
  • Read one book every month. I am a self-confessed bookworm, i used to read 2 books every week when i was still in school.
  • Write again. Need i say more=)
